Los Angeles, California (February 19, 2025) – Today, L.A.-based designer Adam Hunter, and Tamara Kaye-Honey, founder of California interior design firm House of Honey announced a partnership that merges their organized relief efforts, launched in response to the devastating LA wildfires that have displaced countless families, destroying their homes and memories. The joining of their two initiatives now entitled, LA CAN DO’s Soft Landing, is supported in partnership with media company California Home+Design, with a mission to provide essential furnishings and home goods to displaced families so that they may recover with comfort, warmth, and dignity.
Just days after the fires began, Hunter and his team launched into action to create LA CAN DO (Los Angeles Creatives Aid in Natural Disasters Organization), a non-profit aimed at helping California wildfire survivors rebuild their lives and homes. Inspired by his personal experience as a Pacific Palisades resident and witness to the devastation caused by wildfires, Hunter is rallying the design community and beyond to provide essential furnishings and support for displaced families.
“As someone who lives in the Palisades and has been affected by the fires, it’s hard to put into words the devastation we are witnessing,” Hunter shared. “My thoughts are with my own family, friends, and dear clients who have lost their homes. Now, it’s time to take action.”
Simultaneously, Honey and her team immediately started their own undertaking by collecting toiletries, home goods, and clothing for those affected by the Eaton fires in Altadena. The designer has a personal connection to the community as it’s where she raised her children and began her design business. Tragically, this house was lost in the recent fires. They quickly stepped into action by creating a resource center inside her South Pasadena design studio that in just one week provided essential donations to over 300 local families. Due to the overwhelming response, the team decided to expand
their offering and launch the Soft Landing Project by calling on other designers, industry leaders, and brands to donate any new/gently used items including furniture, lighting, rugs, bedding, art, accessories and more, that could be donated to families upon securing relocated housing.
To propel their efforts, Honey and Hunter recognized they could maximize impact by merging their individual endeavors to create a greater force of giving. The teams quickly established two furniture donation centers—located in the Pacific Design Center and a private warehouse in Downtown LA—where displaced families will have the opportunity to ‘shop’ for free furniture and home goods to fill their new homes. To date, over 8,000 items have been collected in both locations—a truly overwhelming response and a testament to the strength that runs through the design community.
“The support from the design industry, not just in California but across the country, has been astounding,” says Kaye-Honey. “At this point I know we have around 8,000 items to give, but the list is growing. We are fortunate to partner with Adam Hunter and his team who are eager to help spread the word about our joint initiative and help rebuild our community.”
With LA CAN DO’s Soft Landing Project, the partners aim to rally the creative community and beyond to create meaningful change for families facing unimaginable loss. “This is about more than just replacing what was lost,” Hunter says. “It’s about helping people rebuild their lives and restore hope for the future.”
