Alkemis Paint introduces Blue Sky palette for Design Miami 2024

MIAMI – Alkemis Paint, the official paint partner of Design Miami, created a custom color palette for the fair, emulating the Blue Sky curatorial theme conceived by Design Miami 2024 Curatorial Director Glenn Adamson. The custom color palette was painted throughout the fair’s public spaces, including the entrance, Collectors Lounge, Café, and Design Talks Theatre, as well as incorporated into the outdoor sculpture by Nicole Nomsa Moyo and entrance installation by Mathieu Lehanneur. Additionally, the paint was shown at the R&Company and Galerie FUMI booths.

The color names (and inspiration) chosen by Adamson are:

  • Eileen Grey – a tribute to the pioneering Irish architect whose “Dragons” armchair remains the most valuable 20th-century design ever sold.
  • Shadow Gap – a color you might find tucked away in the recesses of a modernist home.
  • Miami Beach – a sandy hue evoking the sun-splashed local scene.
  • Paris Cauldron – inspired by Mathieu Lehanneur’s floating Olympics emblem. Lehanneur will be creating the entrance to Design Miami 2024.
  • Bauhaus Afternoon – light strikes the white walls of the eminent German design school.
  • Robins’ Egg – a nod to Design Miami founder Craig Robins, who hatched the idea of Design Miami back in 2005.
  • Fallingwater  – winner of the Name This Color contest

The custom color development process was collectively conceptualized by Grela Orihuela (Senior Vice President of Design Miami) and Alkemis Paint co-founders—Maya Crowne & Price Latimer—to complement and harmonize Adamson’s curatorial narrative. Alkemis Paint is proud to be the leading choice for beautiful and intentional exhibition design.

“We are thrilled and honored to collaborate again with Design Miami on its 20th edition and bold conceptual direction,” said Maya Crowne, Alkemis co-founder/CEO.  “Each year, stepping into the fair feels like being transported to an entirely new realm, where the boundaries between art and design coalesce.”

Alkemis Paint provided limited-edition folding fans with the Alkemis Paint x Design Miami custom color palette; each fan panel will feature a color from the Blue Sky palette.

“Inspired by Blue Sky, Glenn Adamson’s optimistic curatorial theme, we developed a custom color palette that highlights how color and neuroaesthetics shape our emotional responses. This imaginative celebration of design transforms the traditional white-box format into a dynamic, sensory experience, setting the tone to guide and engage attendees through the fair’s public spaces,” added Price Latimer, Alkemis co-founder/CCO.

The public had a chance to participate in naming one of the custom colors in the palette via social media, which started on Tuesday, November 19, in order to win a VIP pass (which admits 2) to Design Miami. The winning name is Fallingwater, announced by Design Miami on Sunday, December 1.
