Scalamandré Gets Into Bed With Printfresh

Scalamandré x Printfresh collaboration

Scalamandré’s Zebras make the move from interiors to sleepwear in a collaboration that gives the archive an after-hours audience.

Some patterns dress a room so convincingly, it seems only fair to give them a wardrobe of their own. Scalamandré’s Zebras are making themselves comfortable in sleepwear through a collaboration with Printfresh, taking a familiar presence in interiors into a decidedly more personal setting.

Following partnerships with Stubbs & Wootton and MAE New York, the collection continues Scalamandré’s exploration of fashion as another way to experience its archive. For the brand’s marketing director, Audrey Margarite, the appeal lies in finding a partner with its own sensibility—and a shared appetite for pattern.

“Printfresh felt like a natural next chapter. Their joyful approach to pattern and color, combined with their expertise in sleepwear, made them an ideal partner. There is something particularly special about bringing our iconic Zebras into everyday life in such a personal and playful way—and making it something the entire family can enjoy.”

Moving a recognizable interiors pattern into apparel requires a willingness to let another creative team take the lead. Scalamandré supplied the motif; Printfresh determined how it would live on the body.

“The beauty of this collaboration is that each brand brought its own expertise to the table. Scalamandré contributed one of the most recognizable designs in our archive, while Printfresh brought its deep understanding of sleepwear, fabric, and apparel design. We trusted their creative team to interpret the pattern for their category.”

For designers, that expanding presence raises an interesting question: How does a signature pattern retain its distinction as more people come to recognize it? Margarite sees broader familiarity as an opportunity, with careful partner selection central to the approach.

“Our licensing partnerships are highly selective; we look for brands that share our appreciation for design and craftsmanship and can bring something meaningful to the collaboration. The goal is to expand the reach of Scalamandré without compromising the exclusivity or integrity of our interiors business.”

The takeaway is less a prescription for a particular palette or pattern pairing than an invitation to reconsider the familiar. A motif with a strong identity can accommodate a change of setting—and reveal something of its range along the way.

Margarite continued, “We hope designers see this collaboration as a reminder of the versatility and longevity of great design. An iconic pattern can live in many different contexts and continue to feel relevant across generations.”

Even design icons deserve a change of clothes.
