Driven by a love for homes with rich histories, Matthew Trettel and Ryan Hanson, two entrepreneurs with a keen eye for aesthetics and storytelling, have undertaken an extraordinary project in Minneapolis. The couple has restored the historic Pillsbury Castle, a Tudor Revival mansion once owned by Alfred F. Pillsbury, saving it from the fate that befell many of the city’s grand old homes.

Nestled into the sandstone ledge of a Los Angeles hillside, the Sheats-Goldstein residence blurs the lines between building, furniture and natural surroundings. Its bold triangular forms, sculpted from poured-in-place concrete, appear to grow organically from the landscape, maximizing city and hillside views through walls of glass.

Emily Mould, Design Director at Romo, is part of the fifth generation to lead the British textiles company founded in 1902. In our discussion, Mould shares her perspective on how the textiles industry has evolved over her tenure, from shifting design trends and consumer tastes to the importance of sustainability.
