When the team at luxury home furnishings brand Adriana Hoyos Furnishings meets to discuss the inevitable product discontinuations that must happen as any furniture producer continues to introduce new designs, company co-founder and lead designer Adriana Hoyos doesn’t usually attend.
“In order to get innovation, we have to discontinue products, but as creative director, I don’t like discontinuing products — I don’t like getting rid of my babies. And they are all my babies. So, I’m usually not invited to those meetings,” Hoyos explained with a laugh.
But this fall, Hoyos — and her company’s customers — are being reunited with some of those “babies” as her brand introduces Origen, a collection inspired by earlier designs that have been updated or, as Hoyos explained, “reborn” with new materials and details.
“These are many of my favorites, and I feel so happy that we took the risk and brought all these beautiful, sexy silhouettes back to the collection,” Hoyos said.
The Origen launch coincides with the 30th anniversary of Adriana Hoyos Furnishings, part of Miami-based AHC Group, which includes furniture production, interior design, retail and more. Overall, the furniture brand introduced its largest collection to date during the High Point Market Oct. 25-29, unveiling 30 new upholstery, case good and accent furniture designs.
Along with the Origen launch, the company is offering two new upholstery options that are available on the Origen pieces and on others in the company’s line:
* Diamond-quilted leather: The company has invested in process development at its vertically integrated production facility in Ecuador to introduce quilted leather, which, it noted, is both material and labor intensive. The diamond-quilted leather is available as a premium option. Customers can choose from inline leathers in a variety of colors.
* Raffia: The company sources renewable raffia palm from South American and other parts of the world. “A naturally occurring, water-resistant resin in raffia leaves contributes to its ideal characteristics of pliancy combined with resilience, so it maintains a degree of flexibility, without cracking, throughout its use as an upholstery cover,” the company said. The raffia dries to a beautiful golden straw color.
Pieces in the new Origen line include:
* The Origen Sofa 100 has evolved from the company’s Coco sofa. The tailored two-seater features distinctive, leather-accented arm fronts and is fully customizable.

* The Origen Chair 301 is inspired by the original Grafito chair and has been updated with a swivel base. Made of a seike hardwood frame, it is accented with a distinctive backrest upholstered in raffia, leather or fabric.

* With its roots traced to the company’s Africa cocktail table, Origen Cocktail Table 101 features a hardwood base and natural stone top.

* Origen Daybed 110, ideal as a lounge or as additional seating in common areas, can be customized with fabric, quilted leather or woven raffia for the upholstery. Additional customization is available for its hardwood base. The piece was inspired by the company’s Chocolate daybed.

* The well-proportioned headboard of new Origen Bed is customizable with wood finishes, as well as fabric, textural raffia or quilted leather upholstery options.

* The oversized Origen Ottoman 200 is a model of versatility. Use it for decorative displays or extra seating. It’s available in the company’s new diamond-quilted leather or woven raffia, with correlating or contrasting piping.

* The Origen Sofa 300 also traces back to the company’s popular Coco sofa. Side panels can be customized in correlating fabric, raffia or diamond-quilted leather. Seike wood creates a sleek frame.

“Today, our products are designed with the discerning U.S. market in mind, and Origen stands out for its refinement and innovative material selections like raffia applications and leather quilting,” said Eduardo Perez, co-founder and president. “The development of this expansive collection additionally underscores our maturity as a global brand, our capacity as a vertically integrated operation and our ability to excel at scale, while maintaining the highest quality standards.”
