At the invitation of Carlo Ratti, curator of the Biennale Archittettura 2025, Philippe Starck imagined A House for the Price of a Car, a committed initiative produced with the support of Renault, that invites to a collective reflection on the future of architecture at the service of humanity.
In a world facing unprecedented and urgent challenges, the subject is no longer only architectural; it is humanistic, social, political and ecological. Traditional construction needs to cleanse itself of its venality, and rediscover its primary objective, its real necessity: to provide a roof over the heads of the people who have none. It is urgent. Through this installation, Philippe Starck confirms his lifetime vision: that creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. A House for the Price of a Car measures and compares the amount of technological intelligence contained in a car and in a traditional house, demonstrating the obsolescence of traditional construction and advocating an industrialized approach that is more honest, more intelligent and more democratic.
