Universl Furniture’s Designer Lounge gets the VIP treatment

HIGH POINT, N.C., April 2025 – A complete renovation of Universal Furniture’s Designer’s Lounge will greet visitors at April Market. The lounge, now in its ninth year, has been a haven for designers to relax, recharge, and catch up during busy Market days. Universal’s Marketing Director Kayla Miller designed a new experience this Market to make designers feel even more like a VIP.

“Designers should view the new lounge as a private retreat,” Miller said. “When days are long, feet are tired and eyes are overstimulated, it offers a calm, beautiful space set apart from the bustle of Market where they can recharge, relax and enjoy a few well-deserved luxuries.

Once visitors check into the showroom (a Universal account is required), they will be greeted by servers ferrying wine, cocktails, tea, coffee, and snacks. After a refreshing break, designers can head to the luxury gift kiosk where they can select their own present.

The lounge will feature colorful upholstery that highlights the artistry of the company’s North Carolina-based custom upholstery program.  Lush velvets, deep jewel tones and shapely designs featuring reverse welts, alternating fabric backs, and contrast welting will envelop guests in comfort and style. The rooms themselves are brought to life with bold, expressive color from Little Greene Paint Company.

At the back of the lounge, Miller has carved out a space for designers and clients to review plans together.

“Designers need a wide surface to properly show clients plans, drawings and boards,” Miller said]. “The back room features a long table where they can spread out materials, talk through ideas and collaborate in a setting that feels both professional and inspiring.

Last but not least, a concierge will be on hand to help designers with dinner reservations and any transportation needs.

Learning Center

Universal’s Learning Center, home to its education programs, is getting a thoughtful refresh designed to elevate both form and function. Designers can expect a more sophisticated aesthetic, complete with all new seating by Universal. A new coffee bar tucked just beyond a Dutch door in the foyer will offer hot and iced coffee as well as water, adding convenience to the experience.

“We wanted to create an inspiring space that enhances learning while also making the experience more comfortable and seamless,” Miller said. “From the upgraded seating to the easy-access coffee bar, every detail is designed with our guests in mind.”
