Molenti opens new flagship store in Kunming China

Molteni&C inaugurates its newest Flagship Store in Kunming, demonstrating the brand’s rapid growth in the contemporary design scenario of the Chinese market.

Kunming is the capital city of Yunnan Province in China, known for its pleasant climate with spring-like weather year-round, as well as its rich history, abundant cultural heritage, and diverse natural landscapes. As the most high-end Italian furniture brand in this city, Molteni&C is situated in the exclusive high-end furniture mall, Red Star Macalline, which is currently the only one of its kind in the city. Covering an area of over 900 square meters, it stands as the largest Flagship Store in China and represents the latest and most sought- after Flagship Store.

The Flagship Store is opened in collaboration with Yuemuju International Home. Established in 2008 and rooted in the local market of Kunming, Yunnan Province, , Yuemuju International Home adheres to a boutique strategy and has become an integrated home service platform that combines high-end full-house customization and soft-furnished furniture. With over a decade of exploration and innovation, and a considerable experience in luxury residential projects, Molteni&C’s partner in Kunming has established its professional image in the home furnishing industry of the area.

The design of the façade creates a Zen-like artistic conception in the garden, inviting people inside to experience a real, flowing world that is feasible, hopeful, habitable, and enjoyable. The “stones” in the garden stand in relative juxtaposition, like a dialogue with heritage. The “water” in the garden represents flow and continuity, also symbolizing good fortune and prosperity.

The architecture of the store is in pure Molteni&C style. A warm and welcoming look, given by the natural materials of floors, ceilings and beams, such as travertine and natural oak. A real conception of living, that has always been related to the protagonists of the world of architecture. A theatre of life experienced, where the quality of the home environment is the key premise for planning the various rooms: increasingly more versatile, multifunctional, able to adapt and mould itself to a second usage. An idea of a cosy, reassuring and welcoming home. But constantly evolving, which Molteni&C interprets through wal systems, the protagonists of the project and part and parcel of the architecture.

Great masters of present times who design cities, spaces, interiors and furnishings, such as Vincent Van Duysen, the Belgian architect and designer who has been Creative Director of the brand since 2016, Jean Nouvel, Foster + Partners, Ron Gilad, to name but a few. The Heritage Collection has renewed the relationship with history and with the creators of Italian and international style, such as Gio Ponti, Werner Blaser, Tobia Scarpa and Ignazio Gardella.

Two living areas welcome the guest into the textural path inside the store, where pieces of Vincent Van Duysen, such as Cleo and Octave sofas, Living Box sideway and Hector bookcase, are paired with the iconic D.153.1 armchair by Gio Ponti.
Blevio table, designed by Ignazio Gardella, is the protagonist of the first dining area, perfectly matching with the Gregor sofa, visible through the fireplace placed in the middle of the space.

A composition of Hi-line and Prime kitchens and a second dining area, with Diamond table by Patricia Urquiola, make way for a nigh time area, enriched with various pieces of the Molteni&C collections: Aldgate bed by Rodoldo Dordoni, D.151.4 and D.154.2 armchairs by Gio Ponti, and the Gliss Master, the wardrobe system feather in the cap of Molteni&C’s night Collection.
