Historic Bauer Estate & Gardens to shine as 60th Pasadena Showcase House of Design

Mark your calendars for Spring 2025: April 20 – May 18 the 60th Pasadena Showcase House of Design opens at the historic Bauer Estate and Gardens

PASADENA, Calif. Nov 12 — The Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts proudly announces the debut of the Bauer Estate & Gardens as the 60th Pasadena Showcase House of Design. This exceptional Monterey Colonial estate, built in 1928 and nestled on five acres of secluded grounds, stands as a tribute to classic California architecture and will be one of the largest Showcase Houses ever presented. For the first time in nearly a century, the public will have the opportunity to experience this magnificent property and view the inspired works of 30 accomplished interior and landscape designers who will transform its storied spaces.

Designed by renowned architect Reginald D. Johnson and built by Peter Hall, famed for the Gamble House, Bauer Estate & Gardens has remained a well-preserved landmark throughout its 96-year history. Its former owners, Harry Bauer, CEO of Southern California Edison, and Alice Bauer, Board Chair of the Los Angeles County Arboretum, carefully cultivated this heritage home with the help of pioneering landscape designer Katherine Bashford. These expertly maintained gardens, honored in Pasadena’s 2012 Historic Designed Gardens study and proposed for the National Register of Historic Places, reflect California’s natural beauty and Katherine Bashford’s distinctive touch.
