Landry Design Group sweeps design awards for residences in LA, Rancho Santa Fe and Montana

(June 16, 2025, Los Angeles, CA) — At the Gold Nugget Awards ceremony on June 11 in Anaheim, California, the Pacific Coast Builder’s Conference (PCBC) recognized Landry Design Group (LDG) for four projects throughout the U.S. The oldest and most respected design awards competition in the nation, PCBC’s Gold Nugget Awards honor world-class innovators in design, planning and development each year. Two LDG-designed homes, located in Los Angeles, CA, and Rancho Santa Fe, CA, received Grand Awards, and an additional two were honored with Merit Awards.

The four award-winning homes by LDG could not be more different, highlighting the firm’s versatility in working with diverse architectural styles and environments. However, all the homes share an elegant sense of drama that makes them especially memorable, both in terms of spatial experiences and aesthetics. This year’s recognition by the PCBC continues a remarkable series of achievements for LDG, which has now earned 94 coveted Gold Nugget Awards. While the firm is well known for its meticulous interpretations of classical styles, its 2025 collection of Gold Nugget Award winners reflects a portfolio increasingly comprised of bold expressions of modernism, as well as hybrid projects that honor both period styles and contemporary living.

El Milagro Residence
Best Custom Home Over 9,000 SF
Rancho Santa Fe, CA

Located in a prestigious community near San Diego, where the hilltop site’s 270-degree views dictated many design decisions, LDG reworked the floor plan of the original Italian-style residence to complement a casual, family-oriented indoor-outdoor lifestyle. Incorporating limestone columns, terra cotta balconies and wood rafters, LDG created an Andalusian-style villa with a central interior courtyard. Every room opens either onto the courtyard or to surrounding gardens offering mountain or garden views. A covered loggia overlooking an expansive lawn and pool enhances entertainment without intruding into private spaces and provides a transition between the formal entertaining spaces and the private family areas. Part of the nine-acre parcel, formerly a citrus orchard, accommodates a barn, recreation room, guest house, caretaker’s quarters and a detached garage, all arranged along a plaza evocative of a European village.

Brentwood Residence
Best Custom Home 7,500–9,000 SF
Los Angeles, CA

Inspired by the owners’ desire for a contemporary residence possessing the warmth of a traditional farmhouse, this design seamlessly harmonizes those disparate themes and is an excellent example of LDG’s innovative “transitional approach” that blends traditional and modern design elements. The language of tradition—with features reminiscent of an old country home—is reflected in simplified gable roofing, weathered wood siding and a whitewashed brick façade. However, more modern aesthetics are revealed in a glass-ensconced outdoor foyer whose contemporary open-sky trellis is evocative of a grand coffered ceiling. Throughout the home’s interior, the integration of time-honored materials with clean, contemporary lines achieves both the warmth of traditional design and the drama of modernism. It is a superb example of a design that transcends eras.

GOLD NUGGET 2025 MERIT AWARD WINNERS

Crestwood Residence
Best Custom Home Over 9,000 SF
Los Angeles, CA

Featuring sweeping volumes of glass and steel, the Crestwood Residence is anchored by massive travertine walls atop its Los Angeles hillside site. LDG employed expansive glass walls, terraces, cantilevered decks and balconies to capitalize on Southern California’s indoor-outdoor lifestyle while showcasing the property’s 270-degree city and ocean views. The seamless transition from indoors to outdoors, enhanced through sliding glass panels, culminates in generous green space leading to a dramatic infinity-edge pool with panoramic views of the city below. Inspired by the Case Study mid-century modern homes that are so quintessential to the image of Los Angeles, this home creates both intimacy and grandeur. Entertainment is accommodated in spaces whose volume appears enhanced by bringing endless vistas into virtually every room.

Montana Lake House
Best On the Boards Custom/Spec Home
Polson, MT
Main House 9,200 SF; Guest House 1,600 SF; Boat House 800 SF; Garages 900 SF

This elegantly rustic getaway, situated on a rocky outcrop, offers splendid lakefront views framed by rugged mountains. The design objective was to create a relaxed home that encourages outdoor living and casual gatherings, far from the bustle of the city. LDG overcame the challenges of a long, narrow lot by maximizing views for all interior and exterior spaces without interfering with the natural terrain. The result is a well-organized, multi-structure compound built around a ravine that leads to the beach below. A footbridge connecting the main residence and guest house creates a portal to the waterfront activities. Multiple gabled masses redistribute the home’s volume, and a generous use of local stone anchors structures to their natural environment. Most spaces in the open floor plan connect to usable exterior areas, and a large, double-height porch—ideal for entertaining—becomes screened at the touch of a button. Designated outdoor sports areas and a multi-purpose barn with vegetable garden take advantage of flat areas to provide engaging experiences unrelated to waterfront activities. A cherry orchard, an unexpected bucolic discovery for guests, screens an archery range, further illustrating how this extraordinary property offers unlimited opportunities to enjoy the rustic charm of Big Sky Country.
