The City College of New York RAFAEL VIÑOLY ARCHITECTS COMPLETES NEW CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK BERNARD AND ANNE SPITZER SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE
Rafael Viñoly Architects has announced that the School of Architecture, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture at City College of New York is now completed and will be officially opened on 16 September 2009.
The CCNY School of Architecture, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture is 135,000 square feet and facilities included are administrative offices, classrooms of varying sizes, an exhibition space, an architectural library, design studios, faculty offices, a model shop, mechanical rooms, a rooftop open-air amphitheatre and a separate facility for the City College Architectural Centre – an outreach group that provides advocacy and planning and design assistance to community organizations.

Rafael Viñoly Architects PC choose a 1950’s five-story, modernist glass-block building designed and constructed as a library to renovate, reinforce and transform. The central atrium allows daylight to penetrate through the building from roof to ground floor and has many steel staircases and pedestrian bridges that provide sightlines, connectivity and air circulation. The trademark of Rafael Viñoly Architects’ institutional and educational projects is to promote interaction between faculty and students and fluidity of movement through innovative design solutions.
